Latvian troops under Polish command take an undefended Leningrad for the Finns. The combination of a front too wide to hold and the continued effects of the Purge of Soviet leadership have left the Soviet Union in a difficult position. Speaking of May it was a big month as the 13th marked our preemptive declaration of war against the Soviet Union. We all remember Japan invading Turkey in May of 1940 from our history books right? Our Turkish allies have this under control, if they had invaded Italy the token resistance would have been pushed aside easily. Taking Italy at this point could have complicated the Bearer of Artillery achievement if there were no other Axis members left, but in the course of the war, Japan joined. A number of pockets allowed the Italian army to be defeated quickly. Things are going even better this time around for Poland. After a few more pockets cavalry and motorized divisions raced down the Mediterranean coast seizing key victory points until they inevitably capitulated as well. Speaking of the Italian front, after cutting towards Venice and taking out the forces in Albania enough of them were caught in pockets to reduce their total numbers by a third. While not helpful against Germany, they did fight the Italians a bit and play a bigger role against the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union will have to spread itself very thin to cover all these fronts. The one goal we had in getting Finland and Turkey to join our faction was accomplished. One division of mountaineers to each province, combined with the terrain was enough to hold them back. I built a number of forts in Austria to deal with the inevitable Italian invasion, but it wasn’t necessary. This combined with being the first to take Czechoslovakia really provides a competitive edge when taking on Germany. The other difference was that we took Austria prior to Germany annexing them. The only major changes are that when inviting Estonia into the Miedzymorze they declined and we were given a casus belli to puppet them. I thought there was serious room for improvement in that play-through and restarted, repeating the actual events in much the same manner just with a less flawed execution. It was late 1939, Germany had fallen and Italy was next. in the air focus tree the final focus gives you research speed boost for rocketry, (maybe x2?) which can have the research done in as little as 150 days. It’s been just over a week since we followed the progress of Poland. ![]() I started researching the rockets in 1940ish. When you end up at war with Germany focus on holding ground on the West (give up a little if you have to), and prioritise closing down the pocket to the North - keep in mind, to cut off supply you will need both Konigsburg and Memel) keep in mind if in '39 you think you are not ready for war you can give up Danzig for a short reprieve (though obviously you lose the factories there), if you give up danzig this way and the germans dont DoW you reclaiming Danzig is a very quick justification. focuses, did all the economic ones first, down to the extra research, then the military ones down to the focuses that give you land forts. by the war had the starting inf upgraded and trained to regular and about 15/20 more infantry divisions not far from produced. I disbanded all the starting Cav, upgraded all the infantry to 7inf, 2art + support arty, engineers, hospital, anti-tank, recon. ![]() (plus France and UK often still guarantee your independence.) at start of game, put your political power into going Communist - i was able to achieve entry into the Comintern by 1938ish - when you end up at war with Germany you'll have the Red Army come streaming in to hold the line. Just a matter of surviving, which as Poland can be a little tricky.
